- Law Enforcement Deputy (certified and recruit): 21 years of age
- Detention and Corrections Deputy (certified and recruit): 19 years of age
- All non-sworn positions: 18 years of age
There is only a minimum age requirement. If you meet the qualifications including the physical requirements, we encourage you to apply.
To apply for a sworn position (Law Enforcement/Detention and Corrections/Bailiff), you must be a U.S. citizen.
To apply for a non-sworn career, you must be a U.S. citizen or a foreign national with valid permanent resident status and employment authorization.
Law enforcement deputies, including recruits and bailiffs, must reside within Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando, Hillsborough, or Manatee County.
Tactical paramedics must reside within Pinellas, Pasco, Hillsborough, or Manatee County.
There are no residency requirements for Detention and Corrections or other non-sworn positions.
You may have up to three active non-sworn (civilian) applications or one active sworn application (Law Enforcement or Detention and Corrections).
Applicants cannot have active civilian and sworn applications at the same time. To switch career paths, you must first withdraw your active application(s) by submitting a written request to employment@pcsonet.com.
Yes. Applicants who are not selected or are determined to be unqualified will be notified by email regarding their eligibility to reapply, including any applicable waiting period before submitting a new application.
Yes. We accept both Florida certified and out-of-state certified applicants who are eligible for Florida certification through the Equivalency of Training (EOT) process.
Salary placement is based on prior experience, with credit given for up to 5 years of service.
Applicants who are currently Florida certified or eligible for Florida certification should apply for the Certified position.
Before applying, out-of-state certified applicants should contact the Police Applicant Screening Service (PASS) at 727-864-3822 to determine eligibility for the Equivalency of Training (EOT).
Applicants who are not eligible for Florida certification should apply for the Recruit position.
If you are currently an active Florida Retirement System (FRS) member, your prior service credit will remain in your account and you will continue in the plan where you left off.
If you have already retired from FRS, eligibility to return depends on your retirement plan and the length of time since your retirement.

The best way to prepare is by training outdoors with running, sprints, sit-ups, push-ups, and vertical jumps. Since the exercises are performed back-to-back, applicants should focus on endurance, recovery, and overall conditioning. Training in Florida’s heat and humidity can also help applicants perform at their best on test day. Applicants should be able to meet the minimum physical requirements before testing.

Yes, recruits receive full deputy salary and benefits while attending the agency sponsored academy as well as during in-house and field training.
Law enforcement deputies are provided with take-home vehicles. Recruits and deputies assigned to courthouse duties do not receive take-home vehicles.
