Firearms Release Procedures

Firearms and ammunition will be released Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (excluding holidays)

Valid government issued identification must be present to claim any firearms or ammunition.

Firearms which were held for evidence purposes will only be released to persons named in a court order, probate court order, with a notarized letter from the owner, or with permission from the case agent, and after successful completion of a background check.

Firearms which are held as "safe keeping" may be released to the owner, after successful completion of a background check.

If you have lost your property, please contact the Property & Evidence Division at 727-464-6391 to determine if it has been turned in.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office also has a non-emergency number – 727-582-6200 – for crimes that are not in progress, and for general information. If you are unsure whether your situation is a true emergency, please call 911 and the call taker will determine if you need emergency assistance.
