PINELLAS COUNTY - Deputies, in conjunction with several partner agencies, will join this Friday July 12th to conduct a DUI Wolf Pack operation in Pinellas County.
The participating agencies include: Florida Highway Patrol, Largo Police Department, Pinellas Park Police Department, St. Petersburg Police Department, Clearwater Police Department, Tarpon Springs Police Department, and the Treasure Island Police Department.
They will maintain a proactive profile over the weekend on the highly traveled roadways of Pinellas County. The operation will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2024, and will continue until 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2024. The operation is part of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s ongoing commitment to reduce deaths, injuries, and property damage associated with traffic crashes related to impaired driving. The goal of the Wolf Pack is to educate people and create public awareness about the dangers of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and any chemical or controlled substances.
This DUI Wolf Pack is dedicated to Dustin Horne and his family. Dustin lost his life on October 29, 2018, on State Road 64 in Myakka City. Dustin was hit head on by Brandon Blalock, who was an impaired driver under the influence of alcohol and in possession of marijuana. As a result, Dustin’s truck flipped multiple times. Dustin left behind a young son and a family that is determined to make sure Dustin is never forgotten in hopes of saving other lives. On June 30, 2022, Blalock was sentenced to eight years for DUI Manslaughter after pleading no contest to three charges.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office DUI operations serve as a reminder that driving impaired, whether it be under the influence of alcohol, drugs, prescription medication or any substance that effects your ability to safely operate a vehicle, is a preventable violent crime. There are many alternative options to prevent impaired driving crashes. This is one crime that has no intended target, and every innocent driver on our roadways could easily become the next victim.
We dedicate the night to Dustin and his family along with every individual who has been affected by an impaired driver. Pinellas County Law Enforcement strive to protect our county as we do our part to make a safer Pinellas County.
