Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) Investigates Fatal Vehicle vs Pedestrian Crash in Oldsmar (24-127)

OLDSMAR - On September 30th, 2024, at approximately 6:05 a.m., deputies responded to Tampa Road and Pine Avenue South, after receiving a report of a female hit by a vehicle.

According to investigators, 57-year-old Randall George was traveling eastbound in the middle lane of Tampa Road approaching the intersection of Pine Avenue South, which had a green traffic signal. Investigators say 38-year-old Marie Lucas, who was wearing all black clothing, was crossing Tampa Road from north to south, accompanied by her 16-year-old son. Lucas and her son entered the crosswalk while having a do not cross signal. Lucas was struck by the 2021 orange Chevrolet Colorado operated by George.

Lucas was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. George and Lucas’ son were uninjured. Speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in the crash.

Next of kin has been notified.

The investigation continues.
