Detectives Investigate Inmate Death; Death Does Not Appear Suspicious In Nature (24-140)
PINELLAS COUNTY – Detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit are investigating the death of 47-year-old John Garey.
Detectives say Garey was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on September 16, 2024, at approximately 1:05 a.m., after being arrested by the Clearwater Police Department for one count of Aggravated Stalking and two counts of Written Threats to Kill.
Detectives state at approximately 2:18 a.m. on October 31, 2024, Garey was transported to the hospital due to ongoing medical issues. On November 1, 2024, at approximately 12:06 a.m., while still at the hospital, Garey was pronounced deceased.
At this point in the investigation, detectives have found no evidence that Garey was involved in any physical altercations or sustained any injuries while incarcerated at the Pinellas County Jail.
Next of kin has been notified.
The investigation continues.
