Detectives Investigate Inmate Death; Death Does Not Appear Suspicious In Nature (24-129)

PINELLAS COUNTY – Detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit are investigating the death of 41-year-old inmate Troy Dorsey.

Detectives say Dorsey was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on October 3rd, 2024, at approximately 4:55 a.m., after being arrested by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office for One Count of Obstructing or Resisting an Officer Without Violence, One Count of Possession of Marijuana, One Count of Possession of a Controlled Substance and One Count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Detectives say, at approximately 6:43 a.m. Dorsey was found unresponsive in his cell and detention staff, along with EMS personnel, performed life-saving measures. Dorsey was pronounced deceased at 7:27 a.m.

At this point in the investigation, detectives have found no evidence that Dorsey was involved in any physical altercations or sustained any injuries while incarcerated at the jail.

Dorsey’s next of kin has been notified.

The investigation continues.
