OLDSMAR – Detectives assigned to the Burglary & Pawn Unit have arrested a Largo woman for Grand Theft after surveillance shows her stealing an exotic bird.

According to detectives, on September 7, 2024, at approximately 9:52 a.m., deputies responded to Everything Birds, located in the Oldsmar Flea Market at 180 Racetrack Road, for a theft. Detectives learned a female entered the store during business hours and stole an exotic bird, a Black Headed Caique, valued at $2,400. Detectives say the suspect was observed on surveillance video removing the bird from a container where guests can pet and interact with the animals. The suspect is seen quickly placing the bird into her large purse before exiting the store.

The store owners provided the surveillance video to local news outlets to assist with identifying the suspect. On September 8, 2024, two anonymous citizens contacted the store owners through social media, identifying the suspect as 54-year-old Grissel Flores Nistal.

Detectives made contact with Nistal at her residence in Largo. She agreed to return the bird and was taken into custody. Nistal was charged with one count of felony grand theft and transported to the Pinellas County Jail. The bird was returned to the owner and was in good health.
