Deputies Investigate Fatal Boat Crash Near Bay Pines Bridge (25-103)

St. Petersburg - Deputies are investigating a fatal boat crash that occurred
in St. Petersburg.

On August 27, 2025, at approximately 2:53 p.m., deputies responded to the area of 
9600 Bay Pines Boulevard for a report of an unmanned boat that crashed into
Stebbins Island. Deputies learned that the boat was on a sea trial and was
being operated by 56-year-old Pal Pataki, who was not the owner of the boat.

As Pataki was operating the vessel, he was ejected into the water. Pataki's
body was located, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The cause of death is under investigation but does not appear suspicious. 
Impairment does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

Next of kin has been notified.

The investigation continues.
