Detectives Investigate Inmate Death; Does Not Appear Suspicious in Nature (26-076)
PINELLAS COUNTY – Detectives assigned to the Robbery & Homicide Unit are investigating the death of 33-year-old Desiree Rentz.
Detectives say Rentz was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on March 17, 2026, for Aggravated Manslaughter of a Child and Misrepresentation of Child Care Facility Resulting in Death, by the St. Petersburg Police Department.
According to detectives, Rentz had documented preexisting medical conditions, and on August 26, 2026, at approximately 5:27 a.m., Rentz was found unresponsive in her cell. Deputies and medical staff performed life-saving measures until paramedics arrived. Rentz was pronounced deceased at 6:03 a.m.
At this point in the investigation, detectives have found no evidence that Rentz sustained any injuries which may have contributed to her death while incarcerated at the jail.
Rentz’s next of kin has been notified.
The investigation continues.
