Detectives Investigate St. Petersburg Police Department Officer Involved Shooting (26-054)
ST. PETERSBURG – Detectives assigned to the Pinellas County Use of Deadly Force Investigative Task Force are investigating an officer-involved shooting in the City of St. Petersburg.
On Sunday, June 28, 2026, at approximately 11:31 a.m., St. Petersburg Police Department officers responded to the area of 121 Pershing Street Northeast for reports of a suicidal subject. The caller indicated that the subject was holding a knife.
According to detectives, when officers arrived on scene, they observed the subject, 37-year-old Kasey Sedlock down a hallway of the house holding a knife while stating “shoot me” to the officers. The officers tried deescalating the situation by using a taser twice as a less lethal option, but it was unsuccessful. When tased, Sedlock dropped the knife for a brief period of time but regained control of the knife while continuing to say “shoot me” to the officers. Sedlock started getting up from the ground with the knife toward officers. At this time is when officers fired four rounds at Sedlock. Sedlock was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 12:18pm.
One officer was transported to the hospital due to a blood exposure, but no other injuries were reported. The officer who shot has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the investigation.
The investigation continues.
In 2020, the Pinellas County Use of Deadly Force Investigative Task Force was created to ensure the investigations conducted into law enforcement use of deadly force are thorough, complete, and objective. The purpose of this task force is to make sure that officer-involved shootings in Pinellas County are investigated by an independent agency and not by the agency involved in the use of deadly force.
Due to the new expanded Marsy’s Law going into effect on July 1st, the officer’s names will not be released until 72 hours after the incident. We will update this news release at that time with the names.
