SHERIFF BOB GUALTIERI INSTALLED AS PRESIDENT OF MAJOR COUNTY SHERIFFS OF AMERICA (26-016)

Washington, DC – Today, February 5, 2026, Sheriff Bob Gualtieri was sworn in as President of the Major County Sheriffs of America (MCSA). Sheriff Gualtieri will serve as the MCSA President for the next two years.


The swearing-in ceremony took place during the opening ceremonies of the 2026 MCSA Policy Conference. Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) gave the oath of office to Sheriff Gualtieri and gave brief remarks. Senator Scott had appointed Sheriff Gualtieri as Sheriff of Pinellas County in 2011 when he served as Governor of the state of Florida.  In addition to Senator Scott, Senator Ashley Moody (R-FL) also witnessed the swearing-in ceremony and gave brief remarks before the MCSA member sheriffs.


“I am honored by my colleagues who have faith in me to lead the Major County Sheriffs of America for the next two years,” said Sheriff Bob Gualtieri. “Law enforcement faces an unprecedented number of challenges and MCSA is well-positioned to make an impact through its advocacy, policy priorities, and expertise of its member sheriffs. I look forward to working with our fellow public safety associations as well as our federal, state, tribal, and local partners to lead the way for a safer America.”


 

The Major County Sheriffs of America is a professional law enforcement association of the largest Sheriff’s Offices in the country representing counties or parishes with a population of 400,000 or more. They are dedicated to preserving the highest integrity in law enforcement and the elected Office of the Sheriff.  MCSA membership represents over 120 million citizens.

 

Additional executive board members sworn in today include: Sheriff Bill Waybourn of Tarrant County, Texas as MCSA Vice President; Sheriff Don Barnes of Orange County, California as the Vice President of Homeland Security; Sheriff John Mina of Orange County, Florida as the Vice President of Government Affairs; Sheriff Leon Lott of Richland County, South Carolina as the MCSA Secretary; and Sheriff Tommie Johnson III of Oklahoma County, Oklahoma as the MCSA Treasurer. Sheriff Bill Brown of Santa Barbara County, California will become Immediate Past President after serving and leading the association for the past two years.
