Hudson Man Dies in Single Vehicle Motorcycle Crash (25-018)

DUNEDIN – Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash in Dunedin.


On February 14, 2025, at approximately 5:45 a.m., deputies were conducting speed enforcement near Bayshore Boulevard and Michigan Boulevard in Dunedin. They attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a red Kawasaki motorcycle that was speeding southbound on Bayshore Boulevard. The motorcycle fled at a high rate of speed, continuing southbound. The deputy deactivated his emergency lights and did not pursue the vehicle.


Approximately three minutes later, several 911 calls were received reporting a motorcycle crash near 1427 Bayshore Boulevard. According to investigators the driver, 41-year-old Michael Gaffney, lost control of the motorcycle and struck a guy wire attached to a nearby facility pole.  


Gaffney suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. Next of kin has been notified.


Speed was a factor in the crash.


The investigation continues.
