MAIT Investigates Vehicle Versus Bicycle Crash in Seminole (25-139)

SEMINOLE – Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) are investigating a vehicle versus bicycle crash in Seminole.

According to investigators, on November 12, 2025, at approximately 9:21 a.m.,62-year-old John Baustert was driving a 2012 Toyota Tacoma, eastbound on Valencia Terrace, approaching Seminole Boulevard. At the same time, 82-year-old Darell Groves was riding his electric bicycle northbound on Seminole Boulevard in the southbound bicycle lane, approaching the intersection at Valencia Terrace.  

Investigators say Baustert started to turn south on Seminole Boulevard when he collided with Groves at the intersection of Seminole Boulevard and Valencia Terrace.

Groves was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Baustert was uninjured and was cooperative with deputies.

Impairment and speed do not appear to be factors in this case. Groves was not wearing a helmet.

Next of kin has been notified

The investigation continues.
