Detectives Investigate Inmate Death; Does Not Appear Suspicious in Nature (26-085)

PINELLAS COUNTY - Detectives assigned to the Robbery & Homicide Unit are investigating the death of 60-year-old James Christopher Gosselin.


Detectives say Gosselin was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on August 12, 2026, for Burglary, Exposure of Sexual Organs, and Obstructing or Resisting Arrest Without Violence by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.


According to detectives, Gosselin had several pre-existing conditions at the time of his arrest.


Gosselin was transported to a local hospital on October 1, 2026, after he was found experiencing a medical emergency. Gosselin remained in the hospital and was pronounced deceased on October 5, 2026, at 3:58 p.m.


At this point in the investigation, detectives found no evidence that Gosselin sustained any injuries which may have contributed to his death while incarcerated at the jail.


Gosselin’s next of kin has been notified.


The investigation continues.
