MAIT Investigates Vehicle Versus Bicycle Crash in Dunedin (25-128)
DUNEDIN – Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) are investigating a vehicle versus bicycle crash in Dunedin.
According to investigators, on October 21, 2025, at approximately 3:55 p.m., 30-year-old Raymond Schemkes was driving a 2019 Ford F-250 eastbound on Wilson Street, approaching the Pinellas Trail. At the same time, 67-year-old Jeffrey Slocum was riding his electric bicycle southbound on the Pinellas Trail through the intersection of Wilson Street.
Investigators say Schemkes stopped at the stop sign and began to accelerate through the intersection when Slocum failed to stop for the stop sign and collided with Schemkes’ truck.
Slocum was not wearing a helmet and was transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries. Schemkes was uninjured and was cooperative with deputies.
Impairment and speed do not appear to be factors in this case.
The investigation continues.
