Charges: Battery (Domestic), Violation of Pretrial Release, and Prevent or Obstruct Extinguishment of Fire.

PINELLAS COUNTY – Detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit are investigating the attempted suicide of 47-year-old Nicholas Pavone, who was in custody at the Pinellas County Jail.

According to detectives, at about 6:58 p.m. on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, detention staff found Pavone hanging from a bed sheet around his neck that was tied to the cell door. Detention staff, along with medical personnel, performed life-saving measures.

Pavone was transported to the hospital.

According to detectives, he is in intensive care with life-threatening injuries.

Next of kin has been notified.

Detectives say Pavone was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on Saturday, August 5, 2023, after being arrested by St. Petersburg Police Department for Battery (Domestic) and Violation of Pretrial Release. Pavone was later charged with Prevent or Obstruct Extinguishment of Fire after he damaged the fire sprinkler in his cell on August 8, 2023. 

The investigation continues.
