PINELLAS COUNTY – Detectives assigned to the Use of Deadly Force Investigative Task Force are investigating an officer-involved shooting.

At approximately 11:50 p.m. on March 29, 2023, St. Petersburg Police Department officers responded to a multi-family residence located at 215 29th Street South in St. Petersburg after reports of a male subject firing a gun. Officers later identified the suspect as 26-year-old Jerid Fenderson.

According to detectives, Fenderson allowed the victims, an adult female, adult male, and juvenile male, stay with him in his one-bedroom unit at the residence. Sometime during the evening, Fenderson left the location and when he returned, he found the adult female, adult male, and juvenile male asleep in his bed. Fenderson became upset, retrieved a firearm, and went outside and fired the gun. Fenderson returned inside the bedroom, threating the three victims with the firearm and pointed the gun at them.

Shortly after St. Petersburg Police officers arrived on scene, Fenderson exited the residence with the firearm and began firing at the officers. St. Petersburg Police Officer Hayden Tuggle returned fire but did not strike Fenderson. Fenderson retreated into the residence. Additional officers arrived on scene and began to communicate with Fenderson via the telephone, attempting to get him to come out. Fenderson then fired additional rounds inside of the residence.

At approximately 1:30 a.m., the St. Petersburg Police SWAT responded to the residence. As SWAT officers arrived, Fenderson exited the residence again and fired more shots towards the officers. SWAT Officer Quentin-Lee Morgan, Officer Robert Snippe, and an SIU Detective were in place and exchanged gunfire with Fenderson. Fenderson was struck one time in the chest and retreated into the residence.

Fenderson was located inside the residence by the SWAT team and transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with non-life-threatening injuries. Fenderson is listed in stable but critical condition.

The investigation continues.
