PINELLAS COUNTY – Officers with the Clearwater Police Department have arrested an off-duty Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office deputy for Driving Under the Influence (DUI).
At about 2:17 a.m., on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, officers conducted a traffic stop at Belcher Road and Gulf to Bay Boulevard in Clearwater on a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck after observing the vehicle fail to stop at a red light. Officers made contact with the driver, 45-year-old Rickey Rogers.
According to officers, Rogers showed signs of impairment by having an odor of an alcoholic beverage, slurred speech, and watery and glossy eyes. Rogers agreed to perform field sobriety tests but performed poorly on them.
Officers state Rogers refused to submit to a breath sample.
Rogers was arrested and charged with one count of Driving Under the Influence and was transported to the Pinellas County Jail without incident.
Rogers was hired by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office on July 12, 2004. He worked as a deputy in the Patrol Operations Bureau.
Roger’s employment was immediately terminated following the arrest, which is consistent with Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office policy.
