One of the female victims will remain confidential under Amendment 6 (Marsy’s Law). No further details will be released that would tend to identify the victim.
PINELLAS COUNTY – On Thursday, July 20, 2022 at approximately 8:52 p.m., deputies were dispatched to 121 Steeplechase Lane in Palm Harbor reference to complaints of a stabbing.
According to detectives, deputies located a female with multiple stab wounds and learned a second female, identified as 41-year-old Cristina Lopez-Mera, was inside the residence also suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Detectives say both victims were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Detectives were able to identify the suspect as Lopez-Mera’s son, 16-year-old Angelo Scalzo. Scalzo fled the scene and later surrendered to deputies.
Scalzo was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center and charged with two counts of Attempted First Degree Murder.
The investigation continues.
