PINELLAS COUNTY - The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Marine Unit and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) are partnering to conduct Operation Dry Water over the holiday weekend.
Operation Dry Water, launched in 2009 by the National Association of Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) in partnership with the United States Coast Guard, has been a highly successful effort to draw public attention to the hazards of Boating Under the Influence (BUI) of alcohol and drugs.
Operation Dry Water is a national campaign of BUI detection and enforcement aimed at reducing the number of alcohol and drug-related accidents and fatalities and fostering a stronger and more visible deterrent to alcohol and drug use on the water.
Deputies will begin the BUI Operation on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. and continue through midnight.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office is committed to reducing deaths, injuries, and property damage associated with boat crashes related to speed, aggressive driving, and the impaired operation of vessels.
