PINELLAS COUNTY – On Friday, July 30, 2021, members of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office DUI Unit were recognized at the 2021 Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Law Enforcement Recognition Event and Training Symposium. MADD hosts this event in order to show their gratitude and appreciation of the brave men and women, and their families, for keeping the roads and community safe. The mission of Mothers Against Drunk Driving is to end drunk driving, help fight drugged driving, support the victims of these violent crimes, and prevent underage drinking.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office DUI Unit received MADD Florida’s 2021 Dedication to DUI Enforcement for a Large/Urban Agency.
Deputy Blake received the 2021 Deputy Larry Morrell MADD Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award.
Deputy Laney received the 2021 Outstanding Dedication to Drugged Driving Enforcement Award.
The DUI and Traffic Units also participated in Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) law enforcement traffic safety awareness campaigns throughout the year such as “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket It.” They provided traffic statistics to include DUI arrests and were able to statistically show a decrease in traffic crashes and traffic fatalities from 2019 to 2020.
Due to their efforts, on Thursday, August 5, 2021 the DUI and Traffic Units were awarded for placing first in the Florida Law Enforcement Traffic Safety Challenge. Deputy Scott Pierce from the Traffic Unit received the Safety Recognition Certificate for his efforts in the 2021 Click it or Ticket National Campaign.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office continues to work with our partners and other law enforcement agencies to educate people and create public awareness about the dangers of operating a motor vehicle while speeding and/or under the influence of alcohol and any chemical or controlled substances.
