PINELLAS COUNTY – Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team are conducting a crash investigation in Largo.
On Thursday, July 1, 2021 at approximately 8:15 p.m., patrol deputies were issued a “Be on the Lookout” (BOLO) for two vehicles racing on 119th Street just south of Ulmerton Road. Deputies responded to the area and located two vehicles, a red Chevy Impala and a second unidentified vehicle, driving at high speed. A traffic stop was attempted and both vehicles immediately fled the area.
Investigators say the red Impala, driven by 17-year-old Jazion Cross, drove through the Baskins area of unincorporated Largo where it was spotted by deputies. A second traffic stop was initiated and the vehicle fled a second time. Deputies deactivated their lights as the actions thus far did not meet the policy requirements to continue.
The Impala ran a stop sign at 16th Street SW and Ridge Road and crashed into a Cadillac SUV driven by 34-year-old Charles Robinson. Deputies converged on the crash and took Jazion into custody. Robinson was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries while Jazion was uninjured and transported to PJAC.
Investigators believe speed was a factor in the crash.
The investigation continues.
