When:
The crash occurred at about 6:50 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2020.

Where:
The crash occurred near the intersection of San Christopher Drive and County Road 1.

Why/How:
According to investigators, at approximately 6:50 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2020, 79-year-old Cecilia Dassie was crossing San Christopher Drive just west of County Road 1. She was crossing from the south side to the north side and was pulling a metal cart with groceries. She was not in a designated crosswalk.

Investigators say, 37-year-old Edward Heilman was travelling northbound on County Road 1 when he turned west onto San Christopher Drive.

Heilman was driving a Mercury SUV and struck Dassie on her right side.

She was transported to Bayfront Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

It does not appear that speed or impairment are factors in the crash.

The investigation continues.
