Where:
The campaign will be conducted throughout Pinellas County.
Why/How:
Pinellas deputies are participating in the 2019 National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s national “Click It or Ticket” campaign. The campaign will focus on safety education, strong laws, and law enforcement officers saving lives. The campaign will be used as an opportunity to increase awareness and promote seat belt usage.
The campaign will start on Monday, May 20, 2019 and will run through Sunday, June 2, 2019.
Deputies will focus on educating drivers with the issuance of warnings and citations for seat belt violations. The enforcement efforts will take place at various locations throughout Pinellas County.
According to NHTSA, in 2017, there were 10,076 unbuckled passenger vehicle occupants killed in crashes in the United States. In that same year, 55 percent of passenger vehicle occupants killed at night (6 p.m.–5:59 a.m.) were not wearing their seat belts. That’s why one focus of the Click It or Ticket campaign is nighttime enforcement.
Pinellas deputies will continue to enforce and promote seat belt usage throughout the year.
