What:
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Pinellas Park Police Department, the St. Petersburg Police Department and the Gulfport Police Department, is hosting the 7th Annual Multi-jurisdictional Police Explorer Academy. The academy offers youth insights into how law enforcement performs their duties and how law enforcement serves the community. The Academy will provide training in areas of communications, ethics, weapons familiarization and much more.
When:
Registration is currently open and taking place through May 15, 2019.
The Academy will be held during a two week period. Week 1: June 4,5,6,7 Week 2: June 11,12,13,14. Graduation: June 14, 2019 with friends and family welcomed.
Where:
The St. Petersburg College- Allstate Center located at 3200 34th Street S, St. Petersburg, Florida 33711
Why/How:
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Pinellas Park Police Department, the St. Petersburg Police Department and the Gulfport Police Department, is hosting the 7th Annual Multi-jurisdictional Police Explorer Academy.
The Academy will provide training in areas of:
- Ethics
- Weapons Familiarization
- Facility Tours
- Defensive Tactics
- Officer Survival
- Investigations
- First Aid
The Academy is open to young men and women between the ages of 14-17 years old. They must pass a background check. They must be enrolled and attending high school in fall of 2019.
Academy participants will need to be able to perform physical exercises. Hold harmless agreements and photo/media releases will be required for all participants.
Youth will need transportation to and from site for the day. Shuttles from designated locations may be available.
