Detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit are investigating the attempted suicide of an inmate at the Pinellas County Jail.
When:
The inmate was originally arrested at 2:45 a.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2016. He was found at about 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 6, 2016.
Where:
The inmate was located on the second floor in the jail’s Central Division.
Why/How:
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office is currently conducting an investigation into the attempted suicide of 19-year-old Justis A. Burgos, who was in custody at the Pinellas County Jail.
According to investigators, at about 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 6, 2016, detention staff found Burgos hanging from a bed sheet around his neck that was tied to a top bunk. Detention staff was assisted by medical personnel who performed life-saving measures.
Burgos was booked into the jail at 2:45 a.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2016, on charges of fleeing/eluding a police officer, possession of marijuana, and driving while license suspended or revoked.
Burgos was transported to Bayfront Medical Center.
According to investigators, he is currently in intensive care with life-threatening injuries.
The investigation continues.
