The crash occurred in the area of 49th Street North and Park Blvd. in Pinellas Park.
Why/How:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are investigating a deputy involved crash in Pinellas Park.
According to investigators, Deputy Nicholas Mandakunis was stopped for a red light on 49th Street North in his agency issued marked 2009 Ford Crown Victoria, when the driver of a Ford F150, traveling Northbound, struck the rear of the cruiser.
A single prisoner riding in the backseat of the cruiser, was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries and later released to the Pinellas County Jail.
Deputy Mandakunis was not injured in the crash.
The driver of the Ford F150, identified as 58-year-old Ricky Fullmer, showed signs of impairment at the time of the crash and a field sobriety test was conducted.
Fullmer was arrested and charged with DUI and DUI with Property Damage. He was transported to the Pinellas County Jail without further incident.
The investigation continues.
