Colonel Dennis Garvey
Colonel Dennis Garvey joined the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office in 2001 and serves as commander of the Department of Detention and Corrections. The Department of Detention and Corrections is the largest department, overseeing approximately 1,100 sheriff's office employees and an average daily population of 3,000 inmates. During his tenure here he has served in field training, Crimes Against Children, Robbery and Homicide, Administrative Investigations, and the Office of the Chief Deputy. He was Crimes Against Persons lieutenant, North District Station captain, and Investigative Operations Bureau major. He also spent four years on the Negotiator Response Team. He has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration and a master’s in public administration/criminal justice from Columbia Southern University. He is a graduate of the Police Executive Research Forum and the Senior Management Institute for Police.
