PINELLAS COUNTY- Detectives assigned to the Crimes Against Children (CAC) Unit have arrested a Tarpon Springs man for possession of child pornography and transmission of child pornography.
Detectives began an investigation after receiving information from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) that child pornography was being transmitted via the internet. Through various investigative techniques, detectives were able to identify the suspect as 19-year-old Jack Popov. Detectives continued their investigation over the course of several months and, through various investigative techniques, located several files of child pornography on Popov’s internet account. Detectives say the images were of children between the ages of eight to twelve years old.
On August 9, 2023, detectives arrested Popov at his residence and charged him with Four Counts of Possession of Child Pornography and Four Counts of Transmission of Child Pornography. When detectives interviewed Popov, he admitted to owning the internet account and to viewing the child pornography files. Popov was transported to the Pinellas County Jail.
The investigation continues.
