PINELLAS COUNTY- On July 18, 2022 at approximately 9:00 p.m., deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to the entrance ramp of the Park Boulevard Bridge in the City of Indian Shores to investigate a fatal single motorcycle crash.

According to investigators, 49-year-old Ferdinando Abbondante traveled onto the eastbound entrance ramp of the Park Boulevard Bridge when he approached slower traffic. Abbondante passed a vehicle on the left side, but when merging back over he collided into the guardrail and was ejected from the motorcycle.

Abbondante was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

According to investigators, speed appears to be a factor in the crash. It is unknown if alcohol was also a factor.

Next of kin has been notified.

The investigation continues.
