Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team are investigating a fatal vehicle vs pedestrian crash in Gulfport.

When:
The crash occurred at about 6:52 p.m. on December 22, 2019.

Where:
The crash occurred in the intersection of 20th Avenue South and 49th Street South in Gulfport.

Why/How:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team are investigating a fatal vehicle vs pedestrian crash in Gulfport.

According to investigators, on December 22, 2019 at approximately 6:52 p.m., 60-year-old Marilyn Shorter was driving her 2001 Lexus GS300 southbound on 49th Street South, approaching the intersection of 20th Avenue South.

Deputies say the pedestrian, a 67-year-old female, was walking from east to west, in the crosswalk, on 49th Street South at 20th Avenue South, when she was struck by Shorter’s vehicle.   

The female pedestrian was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where she was later pronounced deceased from injuries sustained in the crash.

Investigators do not believe speed or impairment were factors in the crash, however weather and a poorly lit roadway are factors in this crash.  

Next of kin has not been notified.

The investigation continues.
