Why/How:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team are investigating a fatal vehicle vs pedestrian crash in Seminole.

According to investigators, on December 7, 2019 at approximately 10:21 p.m., 17-year-old Robin Aricel Westfall was driving her 2018 Toyota Corolla south on Burning Tree Drive, and turned west onto Pinehurst Drive.

The pedestrian, 66-year-old Stephen McGill, was standing in the roadway, on the north side of Pinehurst Drive, approximately 40 feet west of Burning Tree Drive, when he was struck by the right front bumper of the Toyota Corolla.

Investigators say the intersection has very poor lighting, and trees and surrounding shrubbery further obstruct visibility when turning west onto Pinehurst Drive from southbound Burning Tree Drive.

McGill was transported to St. Petersburg General Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased from injuries sustained in the crash.

Deputies say it is unknown why McGill was standing in the roadway.

Investigators do not believe speed nor impairment were factors in the crash.

Next of kin has been notified.

The investigation continues.
