Why/How:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team are investigating a two vehicle fatal crash in Safety Harbor.
According to investigators, at approximately 6:39 p.m., witnesses observed a 2008 Kia Spectra, driven by a 62-year-old male, weaving on the roadway while traveling southbound on Philippe Parkway, just north of Avon Drive in Safety Harbor.
Investigators say the Kia made a sudden, sharp left turn into the northbound lane of Philippe Parkway and was struck on the passenger side by a 2001 Toyota Avalon, driven by 19-year-old Brendan Burke, who was traveling northbound on Philippe Parkway.
The impact forced both vehicles off the road, where the Kia struck a utility pole.
The 62-year-old male sustained life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital, were he was pronounced deceased. Next of Kin has not been notified.
Burke sustained non-life threatening injuries and was also transported to a local hospital.
Speed and impairment do not appear to be a factors in the crash.
The investigation continues.
