Colonel Paul Carey
Colonel Paul Carey joined the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office in 2003 after six years with the Tarpon Springs Police Department. He currently serves as commander of the Department of Detention and Corrections. The Department of Detention and Corrections is the largest department, overseeing approximately 1,100 sheriff's office employees and an average daily population of 3,000 inmates. He has served in Field Training, Environmental Lands, and on the STAR Team. He has been a corporal in the Strategic Enforcement Section, a sergeant in the Administrative Investigations Division, a lieutenant in the Patrol Operations Bureau, and commander of the Violent Crimes Task Force, Child Protection Investigation Division, Narcotics Division, Criminal Investigations Division, and the Department of Detention and Corrections Support and Health Services Bureau. He earned his bachelor’s degree from St. Petersburg College and is a graduate of the Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute, Senior Leadership Program.
