Health and Wellness Update - March 2020

Below please find your Health and Wellness Update for March 2020, which is…… Dietary Guidelines. Did you know making a few changes to your diet can have a huge impact on your overall health and wellbeing? What can you do, you wonder?? To start, eat enough protein, fruits, vegetables, whole grain and low fat dairy products. Pay close attention to sodium and sugar content, especially if you turn to frozen “healthy” meals in a pinch. Don’t worry; you can still have your cheesecake AND eat it, too; moderation is key. |

The news from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) about the escalated global public health threat of COVID-19, formally known as the novel coronavirus or 2019-nCoV, is top of mind for us at UnitedHealth Group. There has been a lot of coverage worldwide about the virus, which can be unsettling for you and your loved ones. While it is still too early to fully understand COVID-19, our number-one priority is to support the health and safety of our members and patients. We have been monitoring this evolving situation closely and have a team of experts working around the clock to ensure we are doing everything possible to keep people safe and support the health of those we are privileged to serve. Our preparation activities are enabled by our sophisticated tracking systems, and leverage the latest clinical insights, technology, and analytics. We do expect more cases of COVID-19 to be diagnosed, much like the other epidemics that we have experienced over the last 15 years. It is important to know that 80% of COVID-19 cases are mild or without symptoms. Like the seasonal flu, COVID-19 infection is more severe in patients with chronic underlying health conditions and the elderly. For the most updated information about COVID-19, I encourage you to visit the CDC’s Share the Facts, Stop the Fear page. Please review the attached flyer for more information. |

UHC Health and Wellness Update - April 2020

April’s health and wellness update focuses on diabetes. Did you know there are currently over 34 million Americans (over 10% of the population) living with diabetes? It is definitely not something to be taken lightly; over time, diabetes can affect your blood vessels, eyes, heart and kidneys, just to name a few.
Do you know the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes? One of these two types can go unnoticed and develops gradually over an extended period of time. What is considered a normal range for an A1C test? Risk factors for diabetes include being overweight, living a sedentary lifestyle, and family history. Naturally, early detection and living a healthy lifestyle is key to managing this disease, or possibly avoiding it altogether. |
