Death Notice - Albert Raymond Holden Jr., Father of Detective Jim Holden

Albert Holden Jr., father of Detective Jim Holden, passed away on October 7, 2019.

Albert Raymond Holden Jr. - Albert born December 15, 1936 in New York City to Albert, Sr. and Margaret (Parant), who predeceased him. Was known to his siblings and childhood friends as Butch, passed away Monday, October 7, 2019 at age 82. A 1955 graduate of Pierson High School in Sag Harbor. Al served 2 years in the US Army and 1 year in Berlin, Germany. When he returned to Sag Harbor, he started his 37 year career with LILCO. In 1964, he married Kathy (Scherger) his wife of 55 years. From childhood to his move to Florida, Al had homing pigeons. He would take them on his travels and watch for them to come home. After retiring to Florida, Al & Kathy cruised all around the world. When they weren’t traveling and enjoying their children and grandchildren, they were playing golf. Al scored 2 Hole-in-ones. Al is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister, Jane, brothers, Charles (Susan), Bert (Semi), Jeffery (Lisa), daughter, Karen, sons, Jim (JJ) and Bill (Becky), grandchildren, Chad, Ashleigh, Justin, Ryan, Shane, Brittany, Rory and Arwen. Al was also predeceased by his sister, Claire Wagner.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 26th at 11:00 AM at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park, 2860 Sunset Point Rd, Clearwater, Florida. In lieu of flowers or other gifts, please consider donating to St. Jude’s Research Hospital in remembrance of Al. A fund has been established in his honor. Go online to Giftfund.stjude.org click on Find a Fund and enter “Albert Holden Remembrance Fund”. You can also call 1-800-822-6344 to donate by phone.

Deputy Denise Houghton's mother, Susan Benson, unexpectedly passed away on Wednesday, November 25, 2020. The funeral will be on December 4, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Brewer & Sons Funeral Home.
