Contract Negotiations/Voting

Nicholas Bedy
The PBA and Sheriff have finished negotiations for the 2019 wage reopeners. The agreement includes a 2% general wage increase for both bargaining units (Deputy/Corporal and Sergeant/Lieutenant). This increase will be effective in October for all members in the top step prior to October 1st. For members not in the top step, this increase will be effective on the same day as your step increase.

This increase must be approved by a vote of members in each unit. We plan to hold the vote at the end of this month or early next month. At least 7 days notice will be given with the exact voting dates, times and locations.

The new step plans are attached for review.

Tentative Agreement for 2019-2020 Wage Reopener

Nicholas Bedy
Our contract negotiations concluded this week, and the PBA has come to a tentative agreement with the sheriff regarding the 2019-2020 wage reopener. The PBA and the sheriff have tentatively agreed to a 3% general wage increase effective October 1, 2019, which will be applied to both entry and maximum salaries too, plus receive Step increase on the member's anniversary.
We hope to bring this agreement to a vote the week of May 13th. We need PBA members to volunteer to assist with voting. If you available that week, please contact me or Corporal Robert Marsh so we can determine the voting schedule as soon as possible.

Michael Krohn Termination

Nicholas Bedy
Following is an email sent to the PBA Board of Directors on Friday. When I learn more regarding ARB and contract negotiation representation, I will post it here.

Nicholas Bedy
Sgt/Lt Representative

Sun Coast PBA Board of Directors,

I am writing to let you know that Michael Krohn was terminated for just cause yesterday, November 14, after he no called and no showed to a meeting we had scheduled that morning. He is no longer employed by or affiliated with the PBA.

As many of you know, over the last several months, our leadership team and membership have experienced a series of performance issues with Michael; including during contract negotiations and with his work place behavior. These issues escalated quickly in the last few weeks and unfortunately could not be resolved.

Fortunately, we have a great network of support. We have already secured legal counsel for our members who are dealing with pending grievance matters so that they will not be impacted. We also have access to other local PBA attorneys until we can fill our General Counsel / Executive Director position.

Although transition periods can be demanding on all of us, I am certain that Sun Coast will come out of this situation stronger and better. If you have any questions, please call me. I’m available to talk through any questions you may have that I didn’t address here.

Respectfully,

George Lofton
President

Sun Coast Police Benevolent Association
