Summary:
Following a 2014 change in federal law, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement began offering a service to perform background checks for law enforcement agencies prior to the return of a firearm in the agency’s custody. These record checks include queries into data systems law enforcement agencies already use with an additional query into the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) National Instant Check System (NICS) Indices; a limited access database of persons who have been pre-qualified as ineligible to purchase or possess a firearm under federal or state law.

Important Information for:
All Criminal Justice Agency Personnel, Agency Heads, Local Agency Security Officers, CJIS Agency Coordinators, and FCIC/NCIC Agency Coordinators.
